Kiel is famous for the giant Kiel Canal - the world's busiest artificial canal, which links the North Sea with the Baltic - and has a great waterfront setting. Shopping is the main draw to this northern German town and many Danes and Swedes make the ferry journey here to do just that.
Accommodation is plentiful in Kiel with a good choice of hotels throughout the city. Many quality hotels are located near the port terminals, as well as in the city centre and its environs.
The nearest hotels to the ferry terminals are the Astor Hotel, Muhl's Hotel and the Consur Hotel on the west side of the dock, while on the east side are the Hotel Runge and Karlstal Hotel.
